Three hidden iOS 27 features you missed

You probably know the big iOS 27 headlines, but three smaller features are hiding in plain sight. They are quick to learn and actually useful.

First, there is a small delight for your social calendar. If you add birthdays to your contacts, the phone acknowledges the occasion. When you call someone on their birthday, you get a little animation on the screen. It is not a feature that changes your life, but it is a nice touch that reminds you to say HBD.

Second, you can add the timer button to your Control Center. Once it is there, tapping it opens a widget at the top of the screen. You can swipe to select the time you want, which is much faster than digging through the Clock app. This is a small quality-of-life improvement that saves a few seconds every time you need a quick countdown.

The third one is arguably the most practical. Have you ever wanted to save a specific frame from a video? Usually, you take a screenshot and then spend time cropping out the playback controls. Now, you can pause the video on the exact frame you want. Tap the three-dot button and select “Save Video Frame as Photo.” The image saves without the interface clutter. No cropping, no cleanup. Just the frame you wanted.
